MOTIVATION

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to “get lucky” and attract all the success and good things they want and others seem to have the worst luck bumping up against obstacle after obstacle? This is the law of attraction at work.

What is Attraction? Attraction is a combination of thoughts, feelings, and actions. Our thoughts and feelings are continuously working to bring to us exactly what we are asking for.

How Can I Become an Attraction Magnet? The principle of attraction isn’t something you can choose to adhere to or not. Like gravity, it isn’t optional. Like attracts like - think of a magnet.

Start implementing these principles into your life so you begin to attract more of what you do want, and less of what you don’t.

Be Selfish. Practice self-care and create time and space to get to know yourself and maximize your own well-being.

Get Quiet. Take time to stop, meditate and listen to your feelings.

Create Space. In order to hear the messages your body, thoughts and feelings have for you, you need to create de-cluttered space in which to get quiet and just be. Remember that the external world is a mirror of your inner world.

Get Clear. Whether you journal, meditate or take long nature walks you need to be clear on what you really want. Only with a strong clarity in your mind and in your feelings can what you’re asking for be congruent with what you receive.

Focus on What You Want. Don’t waste time fi xating on what you already have or fearing what you don’t want or you send all your energy in that direction, you’ll end up essentially asking for the things you don’t want. Focus on where you want to go and you will travel in the direction you desire.

Take Action. Once you’re clear on what you DO want, do something. Take clear, intentional action in the direction of what you want. Intention, thought and energy without action is like sitting in front of a room you wish to enter but not getting up off your butt and opening the door.

Be Open. Practice being open to receiving and letting go of an expectation of how it “should” look.

Practice Gratitude. Be thankful for the people, places and circumstances you have attracted that are in line with what you want. Also, be thankful for those things that are not what you want because they teach you something.

Attracting what we want in life is a moving target and a continual journey. Like the natural world, each of us is continually evolving, so the playing field is dynamic. There exists no certifiable map to get from where we are to where we want to be. However, there are irrefutable laws at play in the world and if you start to learn about, observe, and apply the laws of attraction you can and will experience more success and fulfillment.

SAFETY SENSE

Want to guarantee dust-free breezes through your house? Clean all your fans the expert way and cut down on allergy symptoms.

  1. Take them apart.
Do you have a standing or desktop fan? Unplug it and snap off or unscrew the front grill. Wipe the blades with a cloth dipped in a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water and run the grill through the dishwasher on the top rack.
  2. Grab a dryer sheet.
To keep the blades cleaner for longer, use a dryer sheet and wipe both sides of the blades to stop static cling from attracting dust, and then reattach the front grill.
  3. Step up to the task.
When ceiling fans need serious cleaning, get out a ladder to reach them. A long handled brush is good for regular maintenance, but if blades are very dirty, it’ll just send dust flying. After cleaning, spray blades lightly with furniture wax and rub in to repel dust.

    IMPORTANT!
Put a piece of tape over the ceiling fan switch in the “off” position before you start.
  4. Whisk exhaust fans
Clean fans in the bathroom, laundry room and kitchen with a whisk broom. It’s stiff enough to dislodge dirt between the louvers of the vent cover.

Don’t Forget...
To reverse the direction of your ceiling fan blades to blow down in the summer. Push the switch on the side of the motor so it spins counter clockwise.

A TIP Do you have stubborn greasy buildup? Wet the bristles of an old toothbrush with spray cleaner and gently scrub the surface of the blades.

HELPFUL HINTS

These easy, affordable touches will cozy up your home for the cooler days and longer nights ahead.

Whisk away whisper light sheers,
and rehang your heavier drapes and curtains for a snug, warm feeling.

Sprinkle in low- or no-cost accents, like a wooden bowl filled with juicy pears, ripe apples or other seasonal produce, or a clear glass bowl holding a single leaf.

Light candles
infused with spicy-sweet ginger, pumpkin, cinnamon-apple and brown sugar. They’ll “hug” your home with the feel-good scents of the season!

Add seasonal blooms,
such as sunflowers, asters and mums to your tables, shelves and countertops.

Pile on pillows,
and toss on throws in fiery colors such as golden yellow, deep crimson and burnished orange – shades that echo the hues of lush fall foliage!

RELAXATION TIME

You don’t have to break the bank to make your home more secure. There are low-cost tricks that can give you high security.

Use low-tech safety.
Deadbolt locks are your best bet and can easily be installed by a handy friend. Have sliding doors? Put a wooden dowel in the track to keep anyone from forcing the doors open.

Out think the bad guys.
Going out of town? Make it look like you’re home by putting mail delivery on hold.

Install an instant “spotlight”.
Motion-detector lights turn on the instant someone walks by them, not only illuminating the yard but also making it appear as if someone is home and has switched on the light.

Create the look of security.
Many security products only look like the real thing, but are enough to scare a burglar away. Hang a mock security camera by the door, or stick decals on windows that read “Protected by Jones Security.”

Trim the shrubbery.
Burglars often use tall bushes and shrubs to hide themselves as they break into the house. Use shears to trim landscaping that is close to windows and doors.

INSPECTION INSIGHTS

Many insurance companies across North America now consider homes with 60 amp services to be unsafe and inadequate. Yet this level of service (a maximum of 16 circuits) is typical of older houses and can accommodate the usual number of lights and receptacles plus one electrical range and a gas hot water heater. A 60 amp service becomes unsafe only when a homeowner places more demand on the system than it can deliver. Typical household circuits are on a 15 amp rating, garage and outdoor receptacles are usually 20 amp, and large appliances such as stoves and ranges are typically 50 amp.

The wires coming to your meter, either overhead or underground supply 120/240 volt electrical power. Major appliances use the 240-volt power. From the meter the power is fed into a distribution panel, which typically has two bakelite fuse holders (one marked “main” and the other “range”). The main pullout shuts off all power except to the range. This permits up to 12 circuits and a special cartridge fuse to supply the range.

Today houses are built with a minimum of 100 amp service and 125 to 200 being the norm. You should upgrade your service if you install one or more of the following appliances to an existing 60 amp service: central air conditioner, heat pump, electric hot water heater, dishwasher, washer or dryer, whirlpool or hot tub.

Note that the addition of numerous small appliances, such as microwave ovens, computers stereo equipment and the like, will contribute to a significant draw on the system. Although a 60 amp service is legal, some jurisdictions require that the service be upgraded to at least 100 amps, especially if the meter is located indoors.

A WINDOW TO REALITY

Protect your doorknobs.
Painting? Wrap foil around doorknobs to prevent splatter – it's much easier than tape!

Keep out cold.
Cover air-conditioning vents with layers of foil to keep cold drafts from coming into your home.

Use less energy.
Place a sheet of foil between your radiator and the wall to reflect heat back into the room.

Easy ironing.
Remove the cover of your ironing board, wrap with foil and replace cover. The foil will absorb the heat from your iron, giving fabric a crisper, smoother finish.

Platter in a pinch.
Don’t have the right size serving platter? Cover heavy cardboard with foil to create a makeshift decorative tray.

HOUSEWATCH MAINTENANCE

  • unusually warm or warped outlets and switch cover plates
  • smoke or sparks coming from receptacles and switches
  • strange odors in the area of receptacles and switches
  • untraceable problems with plug-in lights and appliances
  • periodic flickering of lights
